Deaths And Funerals Funerals Today Mrs. Mary A. Waters, a former resident of Asheville, died early Tuesday at her home in Washington, D. C. She resided at one time in Black Mountain.

Private services will be conducted at 11 a. m. Thursday in Washington. The family has requested that no flowers be sent. Surviving are the husband, Spencer Waters of Washington; one sister, Mrs.

Winnie Carpenter of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. Salvador D. Moore, 11 a. Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs.

Jones, 72, of New Haw Creek Road, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning at her home. She is survived by the husband. Jones, and two daughters, PirA: Johnnie McNeill of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Edith Holdworth of El Paso, Tex.

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church. Dunn and Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Fannie Waldrop Services for Mrs.

Fannie Waldrop, 85, of 50 Chestnut Ridge Woodfin, who died in an Asheville nursing home Monday evening, will be conducted at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in Richland Baptist Church. The Rev. Harry Dyeus, pastor.

and the Rev. Glen Callahan will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. Weaverville. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of the Richland Baptist Church. Flower girls will be members of the Senior Ladies Bible Class of the church. The body will be taken to the home, 50 Chestnut Ridge where it will remain until the hour of the service. In addition to survivors previously listed are 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Amos Edwards Amos Edwards, 63, of the Swiss died about 9:15 Monday in Community of Yancey, County, St.

Joseph's Hospital following a short illness. Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, Burnsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles D. Ledford Services for Charles D. Ledford. 76, of Asheville, who died early Monday in a hospital near here, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home.

The Rev. H. E. Metcalf will of- ficiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Ledford and Lewis, Raymond, Vonno, Everett and O. A. Payne. Mr. Ledford had been in ill health for some three years.

Mrs. Ernest Boone Mrs. Ernest Boone, 40, of 115 Bradley died in an Asheville hospital Tuesday morning following a long illness. She was a native of Madison County and was a daughter of Deck Mary McClellan Howell. Surviving are the husband: a daughter, Mrs.

He had suffered a heart attack. Mr. Johnson had been residing in Atlanta about three years. He was in the interior decorating and painting business in Asheville for a number of years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

Ruth L. Lanford of Atlanta, a and a number of nieces and nephews. Services and burial will be in Chesnee, S. Thursday. Mrs.

Clinton Hicks Services for Mrs. Clinton Hicks, 54. who died in New York City Monday morning, will be conducted at 1 p. m. Friday in St.

District Dental Assistants Hear Dr. L. V. Grady Dr. L.

V. Grady of Asheville spoke on "Philosophy of Oral Rehabilitation" at a meeting of the First District Dental Assistants Society Tuesday night at the Cafeteria. In his talk, Dr. Grady, who moved his practice here recently from Charlotte, suggested how assistants can aid dentists during rehabilitation work. During a business session, district members discussed plans for attending the convention of the North Carolina Dental Assistants Society at Pinehurst in May.

McGuire Mrs. Viola Bradley McGuire, 42, of Swannanoa, died in an Asheville hospital at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday following a long illness. She was a member of the Fog Mountain Methodist Church. Surviving are the husband, A.

and near Walhalla, died in an Asheville hospital Tuesday at 2:50 a.m. after an illness of six weeks. Surviving in addition to the parents are a brother, Robert Emery Alexander; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Alexander; the maternal grandmother, Mrs.

at the Friendship Baptist Church in Inman, S. C. Mrs. Elizabeth Hill MARS HILL Mrs. Elizabeth Sparks Hill, 76, widow of John Samuel Hill, died Tuesday morning at the of a daughter.

Mrs. Ed English, of Hill RFD 1, after several years of declining health. She was a native of Yancey County and was a daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. W.

H. Sparks. She joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church when she was 12 years old, and remained a member for the rest of her life. She was educated in the Yancey County schools and Mars Hill College.

She was active in community and church affairs and served as president of the church's Woman's Missionary Union. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Swiss, Yancey County. The Rev.

B. S. Hensley, the Rev. Frank Blalock and the Rev. J.

Citation Awarded City For Clean-Up A citation for achievement in beautification has been awarded to Asheville by the National Clean Up--Paint UP Up Bureau of Washington, D. it was announced Tuesday. The citation places Asheville among the top 50 cities in a national beautification contest which attracted more than 6,000 entries. The award was for the city's achievement for efforts in beautification, clean-up, juvenile delinquency control and fire prevention.

The award amounts to honorable mention among cities in the to 100,000 population class. in which East Chicago, was first place winner. HENDERSONVILLE A mile chase at speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour Monday night ended in the arrest of Eugene Kenneth Myers, 20, of Oak Park, Arden, the State Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
