Evelyn Boone of Ashevllle, 1:30 p.m., chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Harry Clark of Bryson City, me A native of Alexander, she was a daughter of the late Roy Siler and Monnle flack Jones. She received a bachelor's degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury and her master's from North Ca JONES rolina College In Durham. She taught in Cumberland County School system in Fay-etteville and retired from the Asheville school system. She was an English instructor of the Mars Hill College C.O.P.E.

Program. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where she was eucharistic minister, CCD. teacher and parish council member. She was a member of Accreditation Committee for the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Charlotte, life member of North Carolina Association of Educators and member of North Carolina Retired School Personnel, Asheville-Buncombe Retired Teachers Association, Reynolds-Miller Chorale and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

She is survived by four sisters, Thelma J. Wilson of Boston, Mona J. Richie of Dinwiddie, Mildred J. Gist of Chicago, 111., and R. La Perle Jones of Asheville.

The Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Interment will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Sunday at Allen Associates Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, 83 Taft Asheville, N.C Kate Bird MARION Kate Mae Ellis Bird of Ellis Street died Friday in a Marion nursing home. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert N. and Augusta Willis Ellis.

She retired as a bookkeeper and office worker for Marion Laundry with 53 years of service. She was the wife of the late Reid Bird and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving is a sister, Gladys Allison of Marion. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Westmoreland-Clapp Funeral Home chapel The Rev.

Paul Mauney will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the services at the funeral home. C.L. Pendergrass TOPTON C.L.

Pendergrass, 65, died Friday at his residence. A lifelong resident of Macon County, he was a son of the late Arizona Pendergrass. He was a retired construction worker and belonged to Aquone Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Mason Pendergrass; two sons, Jer-rell Pendergrass of Nantahala and Stanley Pendergrass of Cullman, two sisters, Anna Lou McClure of Andrews and Betty Thompson of Parrotsville, a brother, Arnold Pendergrass of Dalton, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Sunday in Aquone Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Roy Lindsay will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Ivie Funeral Home until 30 minutes before the services.

Memorials may be made to Aquone Baptist Church cemetery fund, P.O. Box 7, Aquone 28703. Betsy Angel FRANKLIN Betsy Conley AngeL 36, of 175 Fulton Road, died Friday at her residence. A native of Franklin, she was a daughter of Alice Dills Carter of Stuart, and the late J.P. Conley.

She was a real estate broker and belonged to Mashburn Branch Baptist Church. She is survived, in addition to the mother, by her husband, Jackie Angel; a daughter, Stacy Angel of the home; a son, Travis Angel of the home; a sister, Carmella Pruett of Franklin; and three brothers, Larry Conley and Ed Moses of Franklin Sidney Carter of Stuart. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Bryant Funeral Home. The Rev.

Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Carson Cemetery. Margie Ann Siniard PISGAH FOREST Margie Ann Smith Siniard, 74, of 1359 Wilson Road, died Friday In a Brevard hospital.

A native of Transyvlania County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sallie Corn Smith. She retired from Joe's Little Store. Surviving are her husband, Joseph A. Siniard; three daughters, JoAnn Bryson, Sarah Landreth and Gladys Taylor of Brevard; two sisters, Marie Neill of Florida and Evelyn Purgason of Etowah; two brothers, Ralph and Roy Smith of Brevard; seven grandchildren, a greatgrandchild and two step-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Monday in St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Tom Latimer will officiate. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home, and at other times, will be at the home of Jack Bryson, 13 Deer Lake Road. Box 323, Brevard 28712. Ruth Chaplin Ruth Jordan Chaplin, 89, of 142 Salola Asheville, died Friday in an Asheville health care center. A native of Augusta, she had lived most of her life in Darlington, S.C, before moving to Asheville in 1980. She was the wife of the late Asbury Laverne Chaplin. Surviving are two daughters, Helen Kornhauser, with whom she made her home, and Marie Black-man of Darlington; a brother, Leslie Jordan of Bennettsville, S.C; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Kingdom Hall, 110 Johnston with Elder Jack Cutler officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Cypress Cemetery in Bishopsville, S.C. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tasmaria Mehaffey CLYDE Tasmaria Suzanne Mehaffey, 11, of 12 Lee Lane, died Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Wells Funeral Home, Canton, is in charge of arrangements. Effie Pryce ROCKINGHAM Effie Easter-ling Pryce, 86, of Rockingham, died Saturday in a Clemmons nursing home. She was a retired secretary for the superintendent of Richmond County schools. Surviving are three sons, Alva Pryce of Asheville, Robert Lee "Chip" Pryce Jr.

of Elon College and Henry Price of Winston-Salem; and two daughters, Elaine Brown of Mocksville and Rachel Elwanger of Rock Hill, S.C. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Rockingham. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Rockingham, Rockingham Road 28739. Claude Carruth COLUMBUS Claude Young Carruth, 71, of 500 Persimmon Hill Road, died Friday in a Columbus hospital.

A native of Polk County, he was a son of the late Claude Y. Sr. and Bessie Barton Carruth. A World War II veteran, he was a captain in the Air Force. He was the managing partner of Atlanta, office of international accounting firm of Ernst and Whinney.

He was a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Accountants and various state societies of CPA's. He held numerous offices in these organizations. He was a former speaker at several tax institutes throughout the country and had lived in Atlanta for 26 years, where he was a member of the U.S. and Georgia chamber of commerces. He had served on the governors commission for the revision of the Georgia constitution and was active in community affairs.

Upon retiring to Polk County in 1977, he was involved in many community organizations which included trustee of St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus. He was a member of board of directors of Polk Couunty Community Foundation and was a volunteer with local unit of American Red Cross and member and moderator of Tryon First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Alda Wheeler Carruth; two daughters, Jane Winterfield of Stamford, and Margaret Slayton of Atlanta; a son, Claude Young Carruth III of Atlanta; two sisters, Sarah Patterson of Greensboro and Kate Schrum of Gastonia; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Monday in Tryon First Baptist Church, of which he was a member and moderator. The Revs. Darryl Maxwell and Claude U. Broach will officiate. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McFarland Funeral ChapeL where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services. Memorials may be made to Polk County Community Foundation, 1 Depot Tryon 28782; or SL Luke's Hospital, 220 Hospital Drive, Columbus 28722. Harry Clark BRYSON CITY Harry James Clark, 40, of Bryson City, died Friday in a Durham hospital. Clark was a native of Ohio and was a small motors mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Caldwell Clark; a stepson, Gregory Scott Lemmons of Bryson City; a stepdaughter, Margaret Sellers of Waynesvllle; and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The Rev. Eddie Stillwell will officiate.

Funeral and burial services will be held in Toledo, Ohio, under the direction of Ansberg West Funeral Home. Bill Moody Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Belle B. Fry BRYSON CITY Belle Bright Fry of Bryson City died Friday in a Swain County hospital. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Edward S.

and Jennie Mehaffey Bright. She was a member of Swain County Association of Retired School personnel. Surviving are a son, Frank E. Fry III of Snellville, a sister, Rufina A. Bright of Hazelwood; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bryson City First Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Revs. Willie Newman and Charlie Brock will officiate. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bill Moody Funeral Home, where the body will remain until 30 mintues before the services. Ruth Woodcock Ruth Kent Graham Woodcock, 80, of 422 Vanderbllt Road, Biltmore Forest, died Friday at her residence. A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Louise Bolton Kent, and wife of Edwin Myrick Graham, who died in 1971. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Biltmore Forest Country Club, Stocketts Club and Morning Together Group of the Episcopal Church Women of Trinity Parish.

Surviving are her husband, Julian A. Woodcock Jr. of Deerfield Episcopal Home; two sons, Ed Graham of Asheville and Kent Graham of Rocky Mount; a daughter, Betty Anne Parker of Raleigh; two sisters, Mary Fredericka Eakle of Chevy Chase, and Barbara Gillett Dekeller of Geneva, Switzerland; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Trinity Episcopal Church.

The Rev. C. Douglas Simmons will officiate. Committal service will be private. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Sunday at Morris Funeral Home, Merrimon Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Church Memorial Fund or to a charity. Lee Cooper LAKE WALES, Fla. Lee E. Cooper, 89, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday in Lake Wales.

A graduate of Donaldson Military Academy and Trinity College, he worked for the New York Times for more than 25 years. He became real estate editor for the Times for which he won national awards in 1944 and 1950. After retiring, he was appointed to the Hoover Commission and later taught journalism in Lake Wales. Services were held Thursday in Lake Wales Cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Mrs.

W.A. VanStory Jr. of Weaverville and Fayetteville. John B. Biggerstaff MORGANTON John Buren Biggerstaff, 60, of 107 Edgewood died Saturday in a Morganton hospital.

A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of Winifred Earley Biggerstaff of Bostic and the late Clarence Biggerstaff. He was a retired groundskeeper at Broughton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Betty Causby Biggerstaff. Surviving, in addition to the mother, are two sons, Chris and Mark Biggerstaff of Morganton; a daughter, Sandra Stephens of Morganton; a brother, CD. Biggerstaff of Bostic; three sisters, Mary Rob-bins of EUenboro and Dot Bridges and Margaret Bartlett of Bostic; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Oak Forest United Methodist Church. The Revs. Edwin Hackney and Earl Cooke will officiate. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Kirk-sey Funeral Home, where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services. Memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church. John A. Duncan MARION John Allan Duncan, 46, of 231 Bond died Saturday at his residence.

He was a son of the late John Sam Duncan. Surviving are his wife, Gudrun Haardt Duncan; a son, Tommy Duncan of Asheville; his mother, Annie Poteat Marlowe of Marion; a brother, George Duncan of Marion; and a sister, Elizabeth Cox of Marion. A private memorial service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Leukemia Foundation. Rest In Peace Lilli Burow and Son, Jerry Juliette Gilbert GASTONIA Juliette Davis Gilbert, 79, of 1142 Green Circle Drive, died Friday in a Gastonia nursing home. A native of Polk County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Brisco and Amy Walker Davis. A former resident of Tryon, she was the wife of Henry E. Gilbert, who died in 1983. She was a member of Polk County Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Lillie G. Huggins of Gastonia and Janice G. Crowe of Carrollton, three brothers, James C. Davis of Tryon, Don Davis of Chicago, 111., and Henry Davis of Asheville; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Moody Funeral Home, Sylva, where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services.
