MAX REGER RUTHERFORDTON Max Reger, 81, of Westbrook Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., to the late A.J. and Ethel Mount Reger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mary Ankrom Reger. He was a member of Saint Francis Episcopal Church where he served as vestry member, Sunday School teacher, junior warden and usher. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1942 with a degree in forestry, was a U.S.

Army veteran of World War II, 2nd Lieutenant in 11th Airborne 457th parachute field artillery battalion in the Pacific theater where he served as a Pathfinder. He served with General McArthur's forces that liberated 2.000 civilian interns from Los Banos prison camp in the Philippines. He was a forester with the U.S. Forest Service in Seward, Alaska, with Champion Paper Co. and Joe Rollins Co.

He served on Norris Public Library Board, was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, the Literacy Project and Girl Scouts of America and assisted the Girl Scout Pioneer Council in purchasing Camp Golden Valley. He is survived by four daughters, Rebecca M. Reger of Shelby, Nancy Bole and son-in-law Rob Bole of Rutherfordton, Janet Trulove and sonin-law David Trulove of Asheville and Dee Reger of Asheville; brother, Lynn Reger and his wife Audra Reger of Vienna, W.Va.; two Nancy Beckmann and husband Bill Beckmann of New Port Richey, and Helen Peters and husband Bill Peters of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a grandson, Nelson Puckett of Asheville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Saint Francis Episcopal Church with the Rev.

CHANNING FREDRICKSON PISGAH FOREST Channing Fredrickson 80, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of New Haven, and the son of the late Harmon and Mary Bloomquist Fredrickson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include one son, Channing Fredrickson Jr. of Moncur; one daughter, Kathy Johnson of Paradise, one brother, Harold Fredrickson of Scotsdale, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pisgah Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel at the funeral home where the body will remain until the service hour. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. RUBY ROBERTS BARNES ASHEVILLE Ruby Gwendolyn Roberts Barnes, 79, of 121 Bartlett died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000.

A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Crawford and Neta Sams Henderson. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Tolley. She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Roberts of Swannanoa and Wilma Jean Tolley of Texas; two sons, Shelby Tolley of Alexander and James Tolley of Evansville, 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Erwin Hills Baptist Church conducted by the Rev.

Jim Whitted. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements. SNOWDEN COLE Snowden Cole SNOWDEN COLE ASHEVILLE Snowden Cole, 84, of Main Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Cole was a native of Owsley County, and was a son of the late Willie and Emma Bailey Cole and husband of Annie Quinn Cole. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Il, a member of VFW Post and a member of Skyland Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Shirley Ann Cole of the home, Emma Lee Bucklew of Swannanoa, Rita Cole of Arden, Nadine Parham and Snowdena Scott, both of Asheville; one son, Sam Cole of Asheville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Revs. Bobby Smith and Stacey Harris officiating. Interment will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park with military rites performed by the Volunteer Buncombe County Veterans Council and Memorial Team. The family will receive friends Friday 7 to 8:30 p.m.

at the funeral home. A memorial register may be signed online at www.grocefuneralhome.com MARY I. STEWART FAIRVIEW Mary Israel Stewart, 85, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Flesher's Fairview Health Care Center where she had been a resident for six years.

She was born June 22, 1915, in Candler and was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Hinson Israel. She was the wife of the late Holland William Stewart. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Steven Anthony Goforth a and R. Scott Smith. She was a member of First Assembly Church of God, Anderson, S.C.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Stewart of Gulfport, Linda Smith of Webster Groves, Trena Wright of Fairview and Karla Greene of High Point; a son, Michael Anthony Stewart of Anderson, S.C.; a sister, Lucy Thomas of Fairview; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

23, 2000, at Pardee Care Center following a period of declining health. Born in Inman, S.C., he was a son of Loranza Jeter Wilds Sr. and Marie Gibbs Wilds of Dana. He had lived for 31 years in Henderson County and had spent the last 15 years in Greenwood, S.C., before returning to Hendersonville six months ago. He had served in the U.S.

Navy during the Korean conflict and was retired from the Naval Reserves. He was also a North Carolina State Highway Patrolman for 31 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Refuge Baptist Church, the Saluda Shrine Club and a charter member of East Flat Rock Lions Club. Mr. Wilds is survived, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 48 years, Betty Owens Wilds; a son, Philip L.

Wilds of Hendersonville; a daughter, Sharon L. Polatty of Greenwood, S.C.; a sister, Carolyn Gillette of Hendersonville; a brother, Edwin Perry Wilds of Hendersonville; four grandchildren, Tiffany and Dustin Cishek and Dathan and Cierra Wilds; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Refuge Baptist Church with the Revs. Michael W.

He was the son of the late David and Grace Willis Riddle and husband of the late Lucy Arlene Riddle, who died this year. A member and deacon of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, he had also served as church treasurer and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Riddle is survived by his daughters, Barbara Ann Woody of Palm Harbor, Elizabeth Bartlett of Cleveland, N.C., and Jolene Rippey of Charlotte; sons, Dewitt Riddle Jr. of Marion, George Riddle of Greensboro, Robert Riddle of Spruce Pine, Wayne Riddle of Apex and Raymond Riddle of Newland; sisters, Ada Higgins of Marion and Mae Greene of Spruce Pine; brother, Roy Riddle of Weaverville; 25 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren.
