A native of Fountain Inn, S.C., he was a resident of Asheville for 44 years. He was a son of the late Jesses and Alice Thompson Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 682 and a member of the Gospel Wheels "Bobby" Cunningham of 9-C Lee Walker Heights Apartments died Henry Cunningham Singing Group.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Jackson Cunningham; daughter, Antonette "Tonya" Cunningham Asheville; son, William Jackson of Asheville; brother, Cecil Cunningham of Fountain Inn, S.C.; sister, Brenda Lee of Fountain Inn, S.C.; grandchildren, Kristopher Williams, Lamont Jackson, Crystal Jackson, Kendrick Williams, Lakita Searles, Shalia Rice and Emmanuel Reeves; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Antoinette Councile, and brothers, Robert Cunningham and Kapunyan Cunningham. KATHLEEN ALMA GRANT SWANNANOA Kathleen Alma Grant, 78, of Swannanoa, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Mission Hospitals. A Buncombe County, she was the wife of the late J.R. Grant and was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Sally Mae Parker. She was preceded in death by a son, Max Odell Cassey.

A warm, hardworking person, she was always ready to help those in need. She was a member of Swannanoa United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; her grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Arrington and her husband, Cradly, of Greenville, Swannanoa, S.C., Gearldine Shelby Holbert of Asheville, Norma Jean Holbert of Baltimore, and Patsey Jean Holbert of Baltimore; sons, Ronnie Lee Grant of Baltimore and Danny Lee Grant Swannanoa; six sisters; two brothers; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 31, 2004, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy. Tryon native to serve as Peace Corps volunteer ARLINGTON, Va. Wendy Lee McCall, 28, of Tryon has been accepted into the Peace Corps.

McCall, the daughter of Tryon residents Mark and Carol McCall, will depart Sunday for Madagascar to train and serve as a community health educator. Her service will include working with and training village health educators to more effectively promote health practices in the community, particularly for mothers and children. Upon her arrival, McCall and fellow in volunteers will participate intensive, threemonth training focusing on language, technical, and cross-culture skills as well as health and safety practices which will make volunteers more effective in the field. A 1994 graduate of Polk County High School in Columbus, McCall attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where she earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology in 1998. She previously worked in the animal health-care field as a veterinary assistant and wildlife rehabilitator.

She has also had various volunteer experiences working with primates in North Carolina, Madagascar and Thailand. McCall joins the more than 3,000 North Carolina residents who have served in the Peace Corps since the agency was established in 1961. Today, 195 North Carolinians are working in places such as Kenya, HAROLD S. 'BUTCH' PAXTON FRANKLIN Harold S. "Butch" Paxton, 57, of 3596 Patton Road, Franklin, entered into rest Tuesday, Nov.

2, 2004, at his home. Born in Jackson County, he was a lifelong resident of Macon County and the son of Shuford and Evelyn Welch Paxton of Franklin. He was preceded in death by a son, Cameron Breck Paxton, who died in June 2000. Harold was an Army Vietnam veteran, employed by Whitley Products of Franklin as a maintenance mechanic and was formerly employed at Grocery, a member of West Franklin Fire Department and a member of Louisa Chapel Methodist Men and Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Green Paxton; one son, Shane Paxton and his wife, Ellen, of Zion National Park, Utah; and one halfsister, Brenda Ledford of Whittier.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

2, 2004, as a result of an auto accident. A native Graham County, she lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Fowler and Helen Hyde Pilkington. She was a member of Peachtree United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Walter "Walt" Caldwell; a daughter, Nancy Ann Caldwell of Waynesville; a son, Larry Boone Caldwell and his wife, Susan, of Canton; and a grandson, Cameron, of Waynesville.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Hebbeler. He served in the Army during the Berlin Wall crisis from 1961 to 1963. He and his wife, Rosanne, moved to Asheville in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Rosanne; his brothers, Thomas J. Kelly Jr.

and his wife, Marianne, of Rotonda West, Fla. and John J. Kelly and his wife, Elaine, and his sister, Marion Ruehl, all of Staten Island, N.Y.; five nieces and two nephews; and several greatnieces and a great-nephew. The family wishes to thank the staff of the VA Medical Center, doctors, nurses and nursing assistants for the care and attention they gave Eugene during his year and a half on the Nursing Care Unit, second floor.
