Fast take-offs burn excess gas. It's cheaper to turn off the engine than to Idle for long periods. Check your engine's idling speed is it set too fast? Are high fuel costs beginning to hurt? Here are five simple ways you can cut down your gas costs: Cut back your cruising speed on long trips. A 50-mile drive at 60 m.p.h, takes 8.3 hours. Increasing' your speed to 70 m.p.h.

saves you 1 hour, but tests have shown that hour costs you $4 through accelerated gas and oil consumption and tire wear. 2. Avoid needless slop-start operations.
