Rogers, 68, died Friday, May 5, 1995, A Haywood County native, he moved to Piedmont, S.C., in January. He was a son of the late Lush J. and Lucy E.

Green Rogers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War and was an engineer equipment operator with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service for 30 years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and former member and board of director member of Lake Logan Fire Department.

He was a life Pollocks Ferry Hunting Club, Halifax. Surviving are his wife, Lynn Carpenter Rogers Piedmont, S.C.; stepdaughters, Gail Moore of Arden and Teresa Myers of Cruso; sister, Gladys Snypes of Ridgecrest; half sister, Hazel Phillips of Retreat; brothers, Harry Rogers of Bethel, Vaughn and the Rev. L. J. Rogers of Lake Logan, Don of Dix Creek; three stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

FROM STAFF REPORTS Long-time Asheville CitizenTimes librarian Lucille D. Hearn, 79, of 1 Norwood died Friday at a local health care center. Hearn, who retired in 1987, was a librarian at the newspaper for 20 years, clipping and filing stories from the presidency of Lyndon John- Lucille Hearn son to that of Ronald Reagan. "She left a legacy of informapeople will call on for generations," said Citizen-Times Associate Editor Nancy Marlowe, a long-time friend and co-worker of Hearn. Marlowe remembers Hearn as a gentle, knowledgeable woman who was "infinitely helpful." Hearn was named CitizenTimes employee of the year in 1986.

A native of Evergreen, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Bryon and Virginia Wetherington Dean. She had lived in Asheville for 30 years. Hearn was a member of First Baptist Church, where she attended the Truth Seekers Sunday school class. She is survived by her husband, Fred B. Hearn; sons, James M.

Hearn of Jefferson City, and Michael D. Hearn of Charlotte; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr.

Don Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Ben and Carrie Ownbey Davis. He owned and operated the Bates Food Store in Asheville for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 3040.

He was a member of Haywood Street United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, George R. Davis who died in 1989. Surviving are his wife, Ann Ward Davis; son, Larry Davis of Asheville; sister, Ruby Davis of Henderson; three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

A native of Elberton, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary Tyner Smith. She was preceded in death by her son; Jon Mitchell Stowers, and her husband, James Earl Stowers, who died in 1977. She was a retired lab technician at Midway Medical Center and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church of Elberton, Ga. She is survived by her son, Earl William Stowers of Waynesville; granddaughter, Amber Stowers of Waynesville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Concord United Methodist Church, Elberton, Ga. The Rev. Stan Hamilton and Bud Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, Elberton.

and Etta Dewesse Fisher. A homemaker, she was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church and Marshall Chapter Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Faulkner. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Marvin Faulkner; daughter, Sandra F. Courtney of Valdese; brothers, Cecil Fisher of Weaverville and Henry C.

SAMS Ralph Sams Retired Lt. Col. Ralph Henry Sams, 84, of Wesley Branch Road, died Saturday, May 6, 1995. A native of Yancey County, he lived most of his life in Asheville. He was a son of late Henry Ray and Mabel Horton Sams and the husband of the late Nell Wright Same.

He was an Army veteran of World War 11, serving in the Philippines. He was a member and past Senior Deacon of the Hominy Masonic Lodge No. 491, joining in 1946, and receiving his 25 year Grand Lodge Certificate in 1972. Surviving are Ralph Sams his daughter, Elizabeth Sams McClure of Asheville; granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah McClure; sisters, Thelma Maxwell of Pennsylvania and Marie Logerquist of Michigan; brothers, Frank, J.F. and Mack Sams of Asheville.
