A native of Yancey County, he lived most of his life In Asheville. He was a son of the late Henry Ray and Mabel Horton Sams and the husband of the late Nell Wright Sams. He was GEORGE R. DAVIS SR. Qeoroe Robert Davis 71, of Asheville.

died Saturday, May 6, 1995, in Asheville VA Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Ben and Carrie Ownbey Davis. He owned and operated the Bates Food Store in Asheville for 30 years. Ha was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Poet 3040. Ha was a member of Haywood Street United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, George R. Sunday, May 7, 1995 ERICH O. SCHWENQEL JR. MARS HILL Erich O. I Schwengel 54, of 201 Eagle's, Nest, died Saturday, May 6, 1995.

A native of Milwaukee, he'" was the son of Erich Schwengel Sr. and Nancy Welch Schwengel. 1 He ie survived by his wife, Pamela Rager Schwengel; daughter, Lea Marie Hollar of Florida; son, Bill Q. He served In the U.S. Army during World War II nd was an engineer equipment operator with the) U.8.D.A. Forest Service Jor30 years. Ha was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and former "ambar and board of director member of Lake Logan Fire Department. Ha was a life member of Pollocks Ferry Hunting Club, Halifax.

Surviving are his wife, Lynn Carpenter Rogers of Piedmont, S.C.; stepdaughters, Qall Moore of Arden and Teresa Myers of Cruso; sister, Gladys Snypes of Rldgecrest; half sister. Hazel Phillips of Retreat; brothers, Harry Rogers of Bethel, Vaughn and the Rev. J. Rogers of Lake Logan. Don Rogers of Olx Creek; three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Madison I County, she was a daughter of the late Sam Cox and the late Polly I Eatmon Cox. NANCY STOWERS CLYDE Nancy Ruth Smith Stowers, 71, formerly of Chambers Mountain Road, died Friday, May 5, 1995, at Haywood County Hospital. A native of Elberton, Ga, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Earl Mary Tyner Smith. She was preceded In death by her Mitchell Stowers, arid her husband, James Earl Stowers, who died In 1977. She was a retired lab technician at Midway Medical Center and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church of Elberton, Qa.

She Is survived by her son. Earl William Stowers of WaynesvHIe; granddaughter, Amber Stowers of WaynesvHIe. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Concord United Methodist Church, Elberton, Qa. The Rev.

A native of Evergreen, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Bryon and Virginia Wethering-ton Dean.

She had lived in Asheville for 30 years. Hearn was a member of First Baptist Church, where she attended the Truth Seekers Sunday school class. She is survived by her husband, Fred B. Hearn; sons, James M. Hearn of Jefferson City, Tenru, and Michael D.

Hearn of Charlotte; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Don Crawford officiating.
