A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Carbett and Martha Gasperson Butler. He was the husband of the late Betty Bishop Page and Carolyn Martin Butler and was predeceased by a son, David Bruce Butler.

Allen Corpening Marion Allen Corpening, of Marion, entered into eternal rest on June 15, 2009, at Duke Medical Center after a two and half year courageous battle with chronic Lymphoma Leukemia. Allen Corpening death by two was born in Marion, to the late Kenneth Corpening and mother, Doris Corpening, of Marion. He is also preceded in brothers, Kenneth and James Corpening.

He was employed at the Swannanoa Valley Youth Development Center as an administrator for 30 years. Allen received a four-year scholarship to Western Carolina University where he played football all four years (1971-1975). Allen loved to coach little league and girls basketball. He was a wonderful father and husband. Allen is survived by his wife, Kathleen Corpening; mother, Doris Corpening; grandmother, Fannie Whiteside; daughters, Malica Hood (Vee), Kamilah Patterson, Jamila Patterson, Aletha Corpening, Jaalen Corpening, and Laeesha Corpening; sisters, Wilma Lytle (Birt) and At Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church we are mothers and fathers, single and married, gay and straight, young and old, black and white, prosperous and poor, uncertain and sure, broken and whole.
