CHICAGO (AP) The grain futures market tilted toward weakness in the early afternoon with rye and soybeans under moderate pressure in spots on the Board of Trade. Wheat lost all its earlier gains when demand appeared to up. Speculators increased their offerings and prices down. The firmness had been credited to speculative support which dealers said apparently was linked with export business and reports of dry weather in the Great Plains where the winter crop is understood to be in widespread danger of severe damage from soil erosion. Actual traded prices were shown mostly for higher, but losses were most deliveries as traders lowered bids at the close. Buying stemmed from a pessimistic statement by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Ellender regarding prospects for any major change in cotton legislation in time to affect to 1964 crop.

After the close, the Commodity Credit Corp. reported for the weekended Jan. 24 cotton loan entries were 243,214 bales, loan repossession 78,057 bales. leaving a net stock of 1963 crop cotton of 6,740,119 bales. The entries for the latest week brought the total entries so far this season to a record of 912 bales.

The previous record was established under the 1955 crop loan program when total entries were 7.257,000 bales. Open High Low Close N.C. (AP) torneys reached the 50th name on the juror list Wednesday in their efforts to find 12 men to sit in judgment on Byron De La Beckwith in the slaying of Negro civil rights leader Medgar Evers. Five seats on the jury, and one or possibly two alternate positions, remained to be filled. Seven men were seated on the jury. The prosecution accepted five others--making a full slate of 12 white men-but the five still faced questioning and possible elimination by defense attorneys. Jurors were excused for a variety of ceived ideas about the verdict, racial prejudice, personal ailments, and job obligations, among others.

Two more Negroes--the secona and third -came into the jury box for interrogation. They were excused after questioning. Circuit Judge Leon F. Hendrick excused one of the Negroes, Willard Smith, after reading a letter from Smith's employer. The letter said Smith's absence from his job at a missile component plant would interfere with the work of others.

Smith is a production control clerk. Dist. William L. Waller used his pre-emptory challenges to strike the other Negro, Clifford Holloway, from the jury. Holloway, gray-haired 59, is a railroad freight worker.

Waller questioned Smith and Holloway closely about connections with Evers, the leader of desegregation demonstrations at the time of his slaying last summer. Both said they had a passing day at 2 p. m. in Laurelton Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev.

George W. Briggs will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving are four sons, Merret Everett of Marshall Rt. 1, and Vance and Otis of Marshall Rt.
