Harris Community hospitar here, is recovering. Returns To College SYLVA, Dec. 8, (Special) -Jack Simpson. a student of Western Carolina Teachers college, Cullowhee, who has been a patient in the C. J.

Harris Community hospital here, has been discharged, and 15 now back at college. Allison In Hospital SYLVA, Dec. 8. (Special) -Wes Allison, of Green's Creek, is a patient in the C. J.

Harris Community hospital here. suffering with a fractured hip. Allison received the fracture on election day. He is reported to be improving. Hip Is Broken SYLVA, Dec.

(Special) -The Whittier graded school will close December 21 for the Christmas holtdays. Work will be resumed January 2. Vanhook Rites Held FRANKLIN, Dec. 8. (Special)Henry R.

Vanhook, 59. died at his home near Prentiss Monday and was buried at the Clarke's Chapel Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. with the Rev. G. N.

Dulin, pastor, officiating. Mr. Vanhook had been A member of the Clarke's Chapel Methodist church for many years. He was a prominent farmer of the Prentiss section. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs.

Callie Vanhook, and eight children by his first wife, Mrs. Mary A. Vanhook. The children are: Lawrence, Roy, Vance, Marvin. Harve, Dee, and Roger, and Miss Iona Vanhook.

Services Being Held FRANKLIN, Dec. 8. (Special) -The special services which have been held since Monday evening at the First Baptist church in Franklin are being well attended. Dr. A.

Scott Patterson, of Madison. who WAS a Southern Baptist missionary in Africa for 17 years, 1s in charge of the services. This series of meetings will continue throughout Friday, with the afternoon service beginning at 2:30 o'clock and the evening service at 7:30 o'clock. Varner Rites Held CANTON, Dec. 8 (Special) -Funeral rites for Harmey Varner, 30, who died at his home here Monday night at 9 o'clock following several days illness due to pneumonia, were conducted at the Arnold Plains church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev.

W. Pless officiating Burial was in the Arnold Plains cemetery. Mr. Varner had been an employe of the Champion Fibre company here for several years. He 1s survived by his widow and father.

Dr. Davis Improving CANTON, Dec. 8. (Special) -Dr. F.

M. Davis, Champion Fibre company physician, who has been confined to his here on Newfound street for homes fortnight with influenza, is reported to be gradually improving. Dr. Duckett Better CANTON, Dec. 8.

(Special) -The condition of Dr. V. Howard Duckett, Canton physician, who has been critically ill Saint Frances hospital in Greenville, S. for the past 10 days, 15 reported to be much improved. Revival Ends Today ELK PARK, Dec.

Hogsed, who testified In his own behalf, said that he had been drinking and had fired the shot at Mackey the latter's car struck him while he was walking on the highway. Ghormley Appointed County Accountant ROBBINSVILLE. Dec. 8. (Special) At a session of the Graham county board of commissioners Wednesday Ghormley WAS appointed to serve as county accountant for the next two years.

Ghormley succeeds C. C. Lloyd was elected register of deeds in November general election. Mr. took over his new duties Monday at noon and Mr.

Ghormley will assume his duties immediately. Play Will Be Given At Whittier School WHITTIER, Dec. 8. (Special) -A three- -act play, "Wild Flower of the Hills," will be presented at the Whittier school Saturday evening. The proceeds will be used to buy books for the school.

The setting of the play is in the hills of Kentucky. Many pronounced it the best play ever given there. T. C. Jimison and family, formorly of Whittier, have moved to Stecoah. The Jimisons are now living on a farm owned by Albert Hyde In the eastern section of Stecoah. Mr.

Jimison has done active work in the Stecoah and Chedah churches, having conducted successful meetings at both places. Will Hold Bazaar MONTREAT, Dec. 8. (Special)The junior class of the Montreat Normal will hold a Bazaar Monday afternoon in the lobby of the Alba here. There will be many attractive articles suitable for Christmas gifts on sale.

Holds Meet STECOAH, Dec. 8. (Special) --A parent -teacher meeting was held at the Stecoah high school auditorium Wednesday evening. An address was made by J. G.

Wilkerson, of Robbinsville, chairman of the county welfare committee. Entertainment was furnished by children of the fifth and sixth grades of the Stecoah school. Club Is Organized STECOAH. Dec. 8.

8. (Special)The Christmas lights on the square here will be turned on sometime this week, according to J. E. Caldwell, city cierk. The lights were put up last week by the city electrical department.

These Christmas lights and decorations make Forest City one of the most beautiful small towns in the state. Fire Destroys Cotton FOREST CITY, Dec. 8. (Special)-Fire at the plant of the Forest City Seed and Fertilizer company Wednesday morning at 1:30 o'clock resulted in the loss of eight bales of cotton valued at about $200. The origin of the blaze is undetermined.

However, officials of the event were unable to announce the contracting couple Thursday night, as several applications had been filed during the day. An old-time fiddler's contest was another outstanding feature on Thursday night's program.

Members of the Breverd Kiwanis club will play Santa Claus to underprivileged children of the town on night before Christmas, it being the plan of the club for each member to escort five children to a big Christmas tree, where stockings will be provided for each.
