Governor Ehringhaus recnsnlzed the killing as "lynching" and announced the offer of a $200 reward for arrest of parties responsible for the action.

Rogers was badly wounded by officers last Sunday after he hsd wounded two Pender citizens. Mrs. Tom Piner and Special Deputy Sheriff R. Murrv. Murray was wounded when attempting to arrest Rogers.

Rogers shot Mrs. Piner after he had been refused permission to eat a. meal with the Piner family. The negro was cornered In his house and captured after a gun battle. Rogers was being token to Bur-paw In ft wagon when he was drag-ded from It, riddled with bullets and the bodv later was dragged about on the lawn of the Pender courthouse.
